I’m up a bit late for me. \u00a0But a song came into my head (“What’ll I Do?” \u00a0Irving Berlin \u00a01924), and it made me wonder. \u00a0What would people do if we lost the places we remember and didn’t try to keep. \u00a0I know preservation has been a pretty big thing since the 70’s, but does anybody really try to do something? \u00a0Sure they will if it’s connected to someone famous. \u00a0But what about the commonplace places? \u00a0The places we take for granted, you don’t notice until they’re gone. \u00a0They had a place and purpose. \u00a0Folks walked through, ate, greeted, said good-by, created new lives and lost others. \u00a0But to others they’re just crap. \u00a0Should be torn down, discarded, tossed off like an old tissue. \u00a0Have you ever thought about those who have been there? \u00a0Celebrated a birthday, asked her to marry you, was told he was killed in the war or sent him off to the war to fight? \u00a0Brought him home when he came back? \u00a0And those that go off in search of the future. \u00a0It’s all high hopes and it usually is. \u00a0But in that place we were there to welcome them back when they needed it. \u00a0And always pie as a prize or consolation. \u00a0Here, I offer a few of those places. \u00a0With all the dirt and grime, wear and tear that they’ve lived through. \u00a0I got the best compliment about the diner. \u00a0“I like it! It smells bad.” \u00a0That’s because it’s had a life. \u00a0Imagined, yes, but a life. \u00a0Images should say that. \u00a0You don’t have to have action, you just have to look closely.\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
