Old design, new art

Old design, new art

A thousand years ago, I went to college.  I wanted to be an architect.  Part of our finals was to design a home.  I did plans, elevations, sections, details….the whole works.  I passed.  But, when I asked to get a letter to go further in my studies, I was told I’d be better off as a plumber.  I’m obviously NOT a plumber (very far from it).  And decided to take my career in a different direction.

A while back, I dug out those old plans and decided to create them in 3D.  So after 30+ years, people can see what I had in mind.  The building is all there.  All four sides.  I just haven’t finished the landscaping.  Trees, plants and flowers take while.  In the garage is a 1951 Chevy panel van.  Black Cherry and Tan.  I want one when I grow up.

Here’s the view as you would have arrived…..

A Quiet Place

A Quiet Place

Here’s a project I designed for just myself. Everyone always wants to have a quiet safe place to be. Here are a couple views of mine. Just a note: The tall stained glass windows are real. Obviously, it’s only one real window, but it’s one I begged to use my allowance to buy back in 1970. It cost me $5.00. Now it hangs in my bedroom window. The little round stained glass pieces are of sailing ships. The night version is my favorite. Can you smell the damp?

A Little Night Music

A Little Night Music

I spent this evening creating another something old.  It’s not a replica of a real Victrola or one I own.  I just thought I’d create my own version of something I always wanted in the real world. Just in case you think I don’t do these things in 3D, I do.

The Paramount (of a lifetime)

The Paramount (of a lifetime)

I’ve finally managed to get this all rendered and put together. After ninety years, he finally gets the adulation he deserves.  He’s a wonderful character and hero, and deserves all the recognition. He and my mother taught me everything I know.  School taught me nothing.  I learned appreciation, beauty, wonder and curiosity.  I’ve learned life can be entertaining.  And I learned that if I was ever interested in anything, they would run on ahead and help lead me there.  Now, I still keep running on ahead, but for them this time.  I’m sure this show will still run for a long time. I’ll keep buying season tickets.
