Children’s Department Entrance for Library

Childrens library EnhancedFinished my design for a new entrance for the Children’s Department at the library.  A little fantasy and tiny touches, such as a slightly over-size door, fanciful handle to acommodate different heights, and the “Please have your passport ready” at child-eye level to help create the sense of adventure reading provides.  The oversize books also add to the fantasy feel.  And the mural of a young girl who’s hair becomes birds show the freedom of imagination.  The lighting is bright through the tree to cast dappled sunlight and soft below to feel like a forest floor.  The school-house lights at the different levels carry the academic into the fantasy.  There is no ceiling to this space as it is mearly a divider.  The tree continues into the main reading room and above the walls of the entrance.
